The Parisian owners of Clos l’Abbé have family ties to this tranquil corner of Normandy, and it was here in the village of Ouville that they discovered the old maison de maitre. With a team of expert artisans, a painstaking restoration took two years to complete. Geothermal heating, a planting program of 300 trees, and a commitment to using local craftsmen and food producers reveal the owners’ green credentials.
As for the décor and furnishings, old and new are combined in a stylish, modern theme. Colours and textures are subtle and coordinated. As well as the property’s undoubted charms, Clos l’Abbé offers a range of optional services from delicious breakfasts and picnic hampers to private-dining and butler hosting – all provided by the in-house team.
Ouville is a sleepy Norman village, close to the cathedral town of Coutances and the vast sandy beaches of the Cotentin’s west coast. Gorgeous and tranquil countryside abounds where you’ll find ancient ruined abbeys, cosy French restaurants and some of the region’s best food, cider and Calvados producers. A little further afield are the D-Day beaches and the marvel of medieval architecture, Mont Saint Michel.
